Progressive-Collapse Mechanism of Suspended-Dome Structures Subjected to Sudden Cable Rupture

چکیده
This article proposes an progressive-collapse mechanism for suspended-dome structures subjected to cable rupture, based on experimental and finite element results. The anti-collapse can be succinctly described as a node-buckling mechanism: the potential node buckling in local arch-like spatial grid centered unsupported directly determines whether progressive collapse will occur overall structure. Subsequently, this mechanism, model is further proposed, factors affecting bearing capacity of suspended domes are quantitatively expressed through construction resistance index, which used judge sensitivity hoop cables. Further, using Ribbed Lamella examples, extensive calculations demonstrate applicability accuracy index other types domes. Finally, analyze two important but easily overlooked that affect Initial geometric imperfections result rise–span ratio too small grid, while lack lateral stiffness at supports weaken axial outermost radial or diagonal members. Both these significantly reduce stability making it more likely trigger structures.

متن کاملProgressive Collapse of Structures
Local failure of one structural element may result in the failure of another structural element. Failure might thus progress throughout a major part or even all of the structure. After reviewing a couple of failure events, it is outlined why current probabilitybased design codes are inadequate to prevent progressive collapse. It is discussed how these shortcomings might be overcome both within ...
متن کاملEffect of Structural Height on the Location of Key Element in Progressive Collapse of RC Structures
After the failure of an element in a structure, its loads should be redistributed on the other elements and the structure must provide some new paths to carry the load. If such new load paths are not provided, collapse progression will begin in the structure. As the beginning of progressive collapse in a structure is more sensitive to the missing of an element, the location of that element is m...
متن کاملNovel cable-suspended RoboCrane support
The NIST RoboCrane is a cable-suspended robot with the potential to reduce the disadvantages of conventional cranes. One weakness of the RoboCrane is the need for at least three fixed rigid support points for the six overhead cable connections. In many potential applications, these rigid support points are simply not available. This article presents a new RoboCrane support concept based on rigi...
متن کامل1 DEM Simulations of the Progressive Collapse of Framed Structures
Progressive collapse of framed structures is a complex topic going beyond the usual tools of structural mechanics. The analogy with the propagation of damage in the framework of fracture mechanics has already brought some theoretical results, especially when the energy fluxes are analyzed. Nevertheless, the difficulty to get representative experimental data avoids proposing and eventually provi...
